Ollama models taking up disk: list, remove, relocate

Each Ollama model is 2–40 GB. Old experiment models quietly become the biggest item on your drive.

Audit

ollama list                # what you have
du -sh ~/.ollama/models    # real footprint
du -sh ~/.ollama/models/blobs/* | sort -h | tail

ollama rm modelname        # removes blobs not referenced by other tags

Deleted a tag but disk didn't shrink? Another tag/Modelfile still references the same blobs. Check ollama list again.

# point OLLAMA_MODELS to an external/secondary drive, then re-pull
OLLAMA_MODELS=/Volumes/ai/models ollama serve

Are blobs deduplicated?
Yes — same layer across models is stored once.

Partial downloads?
Interrupted pulls leave orphan blobs; ollama rm + re-pull cleans them.
